12/03/2026

On 12 and 13 March, The Japan Foundation Center for Cultural Exchange in Vietnam and White Light Cinéhub successfully hosted two public lectures at COMPLEX 01, led by cultural critic Yomota Inuhiko.

At “J-Lens #1.2: Studies on Japanese Cinema (Kurosawa Akira)” on 12 March, iconic cuts from films of the renowned director were screened at White Light Cinéhub, opened up an in-depth discussion on Kurosawa’s storytelling approach, his portrayal of contemporary society, and his exploration of human values and dignity.

In the next evening, scholar Yomota Inuhiko continued with the lecture “Kawaii Theory” at Event Space (COMPLEX 01), decoded the power behind Japan’s symbolic cuteness culture, and examined an aesthetic system that deeply reflects the cultural history of the Land of the Rising Sun.

Both sessions welcomed a great number of public participants – let’s take a look back at some of the highlights below
