INTRODUCING THE WORK “ESSAYS ON AN NAM ART” BY LOUIS BEZACIER

Louis Bezacier is a famous Orientalist specializing in fine arts and historical archeology. He is one of the few scholars who laid the first bricks in the study of Vietnamese art history, and his influence on this major has been nearly 100 years old.

The shadow of Louis Bezacier has covered many generations of Vietnamese scholars from the 1930s-1940s until now, through the names used in museum etiket, or in scientific publications.

The work “ESSAYS ON AN NAM ART” is a collection of seven talks in a booklet with photos conducted at the Louis Finot Museum in Hanoi under the sponsorship of the Association of Friends of the École française d’Extrême-Orient. In this book, Louis Bezacier has attempted to sketch a general picture of Vietnamese art, architecture, rituals and culture, with a clear intention of a linear history, and a sense of historical period, through the appraisal and description of archaeological and fine art artifacts.

Analyzing the influences on Annamese art, and classifying in chronological order the manifestations of that art, these are the two most notable results of a book that is honest and unpolished, lacking in tact. literature but rich in this truth.

On the occasion of launching the Vietnamese translation of the book “ESSAYS ON AN NAM ART”, Nha Nam cordially invites readers and researchers to the seminar to learn more deeply about An Nam art and learn more about An Nam art and more interesting perspectives on this topic.
