Showcase of our Art History Book Collection
At the end of August 2025, a special Showcase of our Art History Book Collection took place at Heritage Art Space, offering audiences a rare opportunity to explore and rediscover the journey of Vietnamese art through valuable archival publications. The event, co-organized by Heritage Art Space (HAS) and its partner VGEM, garnered significant interest from the art-loving community and cultural researchers.
The exhibition was meticulously prepared, featuring a reading room tour and a roundtable discussion on Saturday, August 23, 2025, laying the foundation for in-depth dialogues about the role of publications in shaping artistic awareness.
Visitors were guided through an exploration of key periods: from the era of French-established Fine Arts Schools, art during the Resistance and wartime periods, post-1975 art, the Đổi mới (Renovation) period of the 1990s, to contemporary art after 2000.
The discussion segment opened up fundamental questions about the documentation and interpretation of Vietnamese art: Why are certain works selected and recognized? How are their aesthetic and social significance evaluated? What is the role of artists in shaping artistic discourse? Lively dialogues unfolded among experts, artists, and art enthusiasts.
A special highlight of the event was the open conversations about the relationship between art and issues of gender and socio-cultural dynamics. Authors and researchers shared diverse perspectives on how art reflects and shapes societal perceptions across different historical periods.
The exhibition of the Art History Book Collection was not merely a display but also a vital bridge between the past and the present, between knowledge and the community. The event contributed to raising awareness about the importance of preserving, researching, and disseminating Vietnam’s artistic heritage.
Let us look forward to the upcoming exhibitions and art events by Heritage Art Space and HAS Library at COMPLEX 01, where cultural heritage and contemporary thought will continue to be connected and celebrated!
